Uploading Splurge

Tue Apr 21, 2009, 4:54 PM
I have finally gotten around to sorting through my plant photos, and have many lined up for submission. I will be uploading the photos in chronological order... They span from 2007 to 2009. Most of these photos were taken during day trips to various regional gardens with the University of Delaware Horticulture Club ([link]).

Some photo locations:
Gibralter Gardens
Goodstay Gardens
Longwood Gardens (twice)
Tyler Arboretum
White Clay Creek
Dumbarton Oaks
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
Meadowlark Gardens
Philadelphia Flower Show (twice)
Fair Hill
Mount Cuba

I hope you all enjoy!

I was wondering, where'd you learn to draw so well in the manga style? I'm sure much of it is just basic human anatomy, but do you have any tips?
:icontsunami-umi:
Hm... I've been drawing ever since I was small, but started with the manga/anime style specifically in middle school. At first I traced a lot, but moved to simply studying professional work after a year. From then on I just drew constantly, picking up techniques from my friends and art teachers.

If you get the chance to take a figure drawing class, definitely do so. Otherwise you can draw your friends or try sitting in front of a big mirror and draw yourself in different positions. While you draw, ask your self things like "How big is a hand in relation to the head? How long should arms hang down next to a leg? Are both arms the same length? Are the eyes aligned properly? Are the legs roughly 2 times longer than the torso?" My problem is I always get caught up in the process that I forget to check myself along the way and correct basic mistakes like that.

Okay, thanks! :D
I think that'll help me out a lot.
I'm currently taking a drawing course (not specifically the human figure but we've done some of that), so hopefully I'll be able to improve.
:icontsunami-umi:
The "Sad Storm" drawing you recently submitted was already pretty good. :) It is always good to want to improve though. I also want to improve but I haven't been drawing much at all lately because of all the other stuff that is going on in my life.
:icondannyjenn:
Anyway, I hope you find time to draw more. I'd love to see some new drawings... you're really good :)

Thanks (and thanks for the :+fav: too), but actually, I cheated on that x_x
I traced the outline from a photograph, then went back in to add details (like the folds in clothes, and the hair... which I'm not very good at at all). But yeah, I think the drawing class I'm taking will help ^_^
